Dr Garvan Walshe

Executive Director

Irish-born, and educated in Argentina and Spain, Garvan has a decade and half of experience in international public policy, including as National and International Security Policy Adviser to the British Conservative Party, and working at the European University Institute, Florence.

Dr Walshe combines his political experience with a technical background (he can code in C++ and Python) and leads TRD's tech activity.

Based in Brussels, he writes regularly for global media outlets including CNN and Foreign Policy. He holds a PhD from the University of Manchester, England.

He is a co-founder of the pro-democracy NGO Unhack Democracy Europe and serves on the advisory board of the Migration Matters Trust.


Helen Thomas CFA

Director - Financial Markets

Helen is the founder of macroeconomic consultancy BlondeMoney. She has worked in financial markets for over 15 years for banks and fund managers. She has been a partner in a global macro hedge fund and been an adivser to former UK Chancellor George Osborne.

Helen is on the board of CFA UK and chairs their subcommittee on the Value of the Investment Profession. She appears regularly in the financial media

Adrian Gahan

Director - Environment and Camapaigns

Adrian Gahan is an public affairs consultant, specialising in UK and EU politics. Adrian has 10 years of political experience in London, Brussels and Washington DC.

From 2010-2017 he was Managing Director of Sancroft, a London and Washington DC based consultancy chaired by former UK Environment Secretary, John Gummer, Lord Deben.

He has also worked at BP Alternative Energy and with the Delegation of the European Commission to the United States.

Adrian has a degree in European Studies from the University of Cambridge and is a dual British-Irish national.


Dr Tim Oliver

Director - Research & UK EU Relations

Tim is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Diplomacy and International Governmance at Loughborough University London. He was previously a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute and associate at LSE Ideas. He has spent several years as a lecturer at the British Army's Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the LSE and UCL.

He has written extensively about Brexit including for the German Institutie for International and Security Affairs (Stiftung Wissenshaft und Politik) and the RAND Corporation. His book Understanding Brexit: A Concise Introduction will be published this year by Bristol University Press.

Dr Limor Simhony

Director - Counter-Extremism

Previously a research fellow at the Institute for International Security Studies in Tel Aviv, Israel, and a researcher for UK military analyst Sir Lawrence Freedman, Limor obtained her PhD from the world-leading War Studies department at Kings College, London.

Dr Simhony was an Operations Serjeant during her military service.
